Brake light out - diagnostic

Recommended Posts

I recently installed the Camel ADV high front fender kit on my 2024 T7. I had to bleed the brake and run a few new lines for the new manifold included in the kit.

Once it was all done, somehow I ended up with both front and rear brake actuation not illuminating the brake light.

I’m assuming it has something to do with the ABS module and the brake bleed. Wondering if anyone has encountered this and if there’s a quick diagnostic and solution.

Thanks!

There's a fuse for the tail light specifically. I don't remember if it's brake light only or whole assembly, but that would be an easy check before anything else. Unless the connector to your ABS unit was loose or you unplugged it, the higher fender kit/bleed shouldn't effect the brake light.

Thanks for the reply. I did check fuses already but will double check.

Tail light still works, just the brake isn’t working.

I don't believe the ABS or bleeding the brakes would affect the brake light, it is just a mechanical switch.

The fact that both are not working  suggest a fuse as Random said, or a burned out bulb.

When i put my lowered sw-motech footpegs on, i need to adjust the brake pedal height. Then the brakelight kept lightning all the time. I needed to adjust the brakelightconnector behind the footpeg. Did you tried this connector?

There's a service manual here that has good wiring schematics to start troubleshooting. The brake switches join up with a connector (26 on the schematic) before going to the light. I think that's under the seat somewhere, which isn't near the area you were working in. The ABS controller is connected to this, so maybe something came loose while you were working on it. I don't think that should cause the brake light to fail, but I'm not exactly sure what the wiring is.

Okay… I’m feeling dumb.

I did a ton of little mods at the same time, including the ones I mentioned and also the Camel ADV rear brake lever.

Thanks BikeBrother for mentioning the rear brake switch, I realized I put mine out of adjustment when I installed the Camel rear brake. The brake light was just permanently on. I’ve adjusted it and solved the problem.

thanks everyone for the chatter on it.

And thank you for a conclusion to the story. It is disheartening when we follow a trouble shooting link, only to have the guy posting it disappear without a word.
