KKE Wheel Set

I pulled the trigger on a potentially expensive gamble and purchased a set of KKE Wheel for the T7.   After searching the web, I found a couple of positive owner experiences and no negative reviews, so decided to go for it.

This is a tube type wheel set, and of note, neither rim has a safety bead, so take that for what it's worth.

I decided to go with the 3M 4412N sealing method (two full wraps of the tape) to make the set tubless.  I did NOT individually seal/caulk each spoke nipple before applying the tape.

I also purchased front and rear Motoz tubes in case the tubless conversion doesn't work out.

For those interested, here's a breakdown of what it cost me to build up a complete plug and play wheel set:

KKE Wheel Set: $749.00

ABS "Rings" and fastening hardware (purchased here from the "T7 parts For Sale").  Included were 1 OEM ring and 10 OEM bolts, and 2 aftremarket rings and fastening bolts):  $75.00

Rear Rotor, Aftermarket, Ebay: $53.86

Rear Rotor Bolts (5) OEM: $27.25
46T Tusk rear Sprocket: $24.99
Rotor Backing Plate OEM: $17.21
MotoZ Tractionator RallyZ 140/80-18 (70R) Tire: $142.99

Front Rotors (2) OEM: $187.18
Front Rotor Bolts (10) OEM: $17.10
Pirelli Scorpion Rally DS 90/90-21 Tire: $97.78

3M 4412N 2" Sealing tape (2): $111.72
3M 111 Adhesion Promoter: $ 22.99

Tubeless Valve Stems (NAPA NTH 90426) (2): $12.98

Total: $1540.05

Will be interesting to see how durable these are. If they are tougher than stock, great, but I would be surprised if they are as tough as Excel Takasago's. My Woody's set cost me $2900 CAD ($2300 USD) all in with disks, sprocket, etc when the exchange rate was reasonable. Haven't killed them yet, and I have tried!

I think I have Yamaha disease...

Mounted the KKE wheel set with off-road biased tires on the bike.  I had no issues with fitment of the  KKE wheels and they bolted right up.

With the 3M 4412N tape tubless conversion, the front tire loses about 0.5 psi per day.  No leaks noted when I submerge and rotate the wheel in a tub of water, so I'm chalking the air loss down to the tire not being of a tubless type and hence having some degree of porosity.  However, the rear, also not a tubeless tire, doesn't lose any air (about 10 days to date now).

As I now had the OEM wheels off the bike I weighed them (1100 miles on the OEM Pirelli Scorpion STR tires):

Front wheel: 25 lb 12.6 oz / 11.698 kg.  For comparison, from my post above, the front KKE wheel weighed in at 23 lbs 13.2 oz / 10.808 kg)

Rear wheel: 37 lb 9.5 oz / 17.054 kg.  For comparison, from my post above, the rear KKE wheel weighed in at 32 lbs 3.8 oz / 14.622 kg)

Weight saving with the KKE wheel/tire combo - front: 1.96 lb / 0.89 kg

Weight saving with the KKE wheel/tire combo - rear: 5.35 lb / 2.43 kg

As expected, the tires are noisier on the road.  I haven't tried them off-road yet.
